Lianna Pan
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Class of 2028
Principal Investigator
Zhenlan Wang, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Psychology
Bryn Mawr College
Zhenlan “Lan” Wang is a cultural psychologist whose research focuses on everyday coping. Lan investigates how people respond to stressful situations in their daily lives and how the strategies that people use for coping are socialized with children in different cultures.
The goal of her research is not just to bring more cultural sensitivity to the field, but also to go beyond a dichotomous understanding of culture (e.g., East-West, Individualist-Collectivist, etc.). Lan employs a mixed methods approach that integrates experimentation, open-ended reasoning, and analyses of cultural artifacts and practices.
Join Our Lab!
Experience at the Cultural Psychology Lab
Our lab provides an enriching environment for students eager to explore how individuals navigate everyday stress, emotion regulation, advice-giving, self-sacrifice, and moral reasoning across cultural contexts.
As a research assistant in our lab, you will have the opportunity to:
Gain hands-on experience in cross-cultural research: Depending on the project that you are interested in, you may get involved in designing studies, collecting data, or analyzing cross-cultural datasets.
Learn qualitative coding and mixed-methods: You will learn and practice qualitative coding for cross-cultural data, as well as develop innovative study designs.
Engage in conferences and publications: Depending on your level of involvement, you may have the opportunity to present research findings at conferences and or have the opportunity to co-author a research paper.
